Gov. Sarah Palin Assembly of God?

9/2/08 Please note: This blog post was written PRIOR to hearing from General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Dr. George O Wood.  The tone of this post is in reflection of the puzzlement of searching for the truth.  With Dr Wood's reply, it has helped cleared things up, but the bottom line will not be "cut and dry".

Wow, the blog-o-sphere is a buzz about McCain's recent announcement of his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin.  The question that continues to be posed...

"Is Gov. Sarah Palin Assemblies of God?"

General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Dr George O. Wood posted on his facebook status Saturday:

George O. Wood is back in the USA, and excited that Sarah Palin, who attends an AG church in Alaska, has been selected to run as VP. Congratulations!

I wrote on his wall at facebook, asking if this is confirmed information, or not.  9/1/08 8:00am update: Dr Wood replied on my facebook wall:

"Sarah Palin attends the AG church, Juneau Christian Center, when the legislature is in session in Juneau.  At her regular home she is part of a non-denominational Bible church.  From junior high school to 2002 she was part of the Wasilla AG.  She's a wonderful Christian."
Bloggers across the Net (including several Assembly of God Blogs) have posted it to be as a matter of fact she is A/G. One such blog I saw posted she attends Juneau Christian Center, an Assemblies of God church.  I sent the church an email on Saturday, asking for confirmation, no response as of yet.

Before we go "tooting our own horn" we should stop and let the dust settle and get confirmed and cited information.  (Dr Woods response is good, confirmed, cited info!)

Some blogs and articles are saying she's "protestant" to Lutheran to a far-fetched speculation she Muslim (which I highly doubt!)  According to the Star Tribune (Minneapolis- St Paul, MN):

She now sometimes worships at the Juneau Christian Center, which is also part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, said Brad Kesler, business administrator of the denomination's Alaska District.  But her home church is The Church on the Rock, and independent congregation, Riley said.

According to this article, Riley was her former Pastor at Wasilla A/G, where her and her family were active until 2002.  Later in the article it states:

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, said Palin attends different churches and does not consider herself Pentecostal.

What do we believe?  Who do we believe???

Is she Assemblies of God, or isn't she?  I think there is no clear cut answer here.  Has she attended an A/G church?  YES!  Does she consider an A/G church to be her "home" church?  YES and No.  9/1 Update:  I guess it depends on what she considers to be "home". She attends A/G while in legislature, which would be a majority of the time.  Can we claim her as Assemblies of God?  9/1 Update: As I said, these waters are murky.  With what Dr Wood posted on my facebook, it doesn't make things cut and dry.  She's A/G when the Alaska legislature is in session, but does not attend an A/G church when it's not.  It's not cut and dry, and maybe that is a good thing for Gov Palin?!?  Interpret it as you will.

Dr Woods initial Saturday facebook status is NOT wrong.  She does seemingly attend an A/G church, BUT it sounds as if it isn't 100% of the time.  Dr Wood is a wonderful man of God, and I highly respect him.

My quest is always for the truth.  Should I learn or discover new information, it will be posted here.

Feel free to comment on this subject and share any information you may have.  This is the network "home" site for Assembly of God Blogs, and I want you to feel free to discuss this in the comments, should you so desire!

What differnce does it make what her religion is....We live in a country where we have freedom of speech and religion...You would think having someone run for VP who is a christian would be a blessing....We need people running for offices in government who stand up for what is pure and holy...Our world is in a moral mess right now...You don't know who to trust anymore...I am glad we have someone like Sarah Palin who is wholesome, a christian, has a loving family and wants to stand up for moral goodness...I am a christian, and there are plenty of christians praying for Sarah Palin....Whether the media wants to believe it or not GOD'S PROTECTING HANDS ARE UPON SARAH PALIN....and since he is the CEO OF THE HEAVENS, WHAT HE SAYS STANDS!! YOU GO GIRL!!!!
